호남춤의 맥락에서 본 선입무(僊立舞)의 특징 연구

본 연구는 호남춤의 맥락에서 형성된 선입무의 전승과정과 춤사위를 체계적으로 분석하고 이를 통해 선입무가 호남춤과 어떻게 연결되며 어떠한 예술적 특징을 지니고 있는지를 규명하는데 목적이 있다. 한국 전통춤은 지역별 특성과 역사적 배경에 따라 다양한 형태로 발전해왔으며 특히 호남춤은 즉흥성과 정형성의 조화, 음양의 대비, 대삼·소삼의 춤사위 활용 등의 원리를 바탕으로 독창적인 예술성을 형성하였다. 그러나 선입무에 대한 학문적 연구는 미비한 상태로 이 춤이 호남춤의 전통적 요소를 계승하면서도 어떻게 독자적인 춤사위를 구축했는지에 대한 연구는 이루어지지 않았다. 이에 본 연구는 문헌연구 및 춤사위 분석을 통해 선입무의 전승 계보와 특징을 체계적으로 정리하고 호남춤과의 관계를 고찰하였다. 연구 결과 선입무는 호남춤의 전통적 요소를 계승하면서도 독자적인 춤사위를 형성한 전통춤임이 확인되었다. 특히 대삼·소삼의 대비, 맺고 풀기의 원리, 즉흥적 변주가 가능한 구조는 호남춤의 특징을 반영하면서도 부채 활용과 무대 공간 확장 등의 요소를 통해 현대적 공연 형식에도 유연하게 적용될 수 있는 가능성을 보여주었다. 본 연구는 선입무의 전승과정과 춤사위를 체계적으로 분석함으로써 선입무가 호남춤의 흐름 속에서 형성된 전통춤이라는 점을 논증하고 학문적 기초를 확립했다는 점에서 의의를 가진다. 그러나 선입무의 전승이 특정 지역과 인물을 중심으로 이루어지고 있어 후행 연구에서는 체계적으로 기록하는 무보화를 통해 전승자들의 춤사위 해석과 전승 방식의 차이를 비교·분석할 필요가 있다.

This study aims to systematically analyze the transmission process and dance movements of Seonipmu within the context of Honam dance and to examine how Seonipmu is connected to Honam dance while identifying its unique artistic characteristics. Korean traditional dance has developed in various forms according to regional characteristics and historical backgrounds. In particular, Honam dance has formed a distinctive artistic identity based on principles such as the harmony of improvisation and formalization, the contrast between yin and yang, and the utilization of Daesam and Sosam dance movements. However, academic research on Seonipmu remains insufficient, and little has been explored regarding how this dance inherits the traditional elements of Honam dance while establishing its own unique movements. Therefore this study systematically examines the transmission lineage and characteristics of Seonipmu through literature review and dance movement analysis, while also investigating its relationship with Honam dance. The findings confirm that Seonipmu inherits the traditional elements of Honam dance while establishing its unique movements. Specifically, elements such as the contrast between Daesam and Sosam, the principle of tension and release (Maeggo Puli-gi), and a structure that allows for improvisational variations reflect the characteristics of Honam dance. At the same time, the incorporation of fan techniques and spatial expansion in Seonipmu demonstrates its adaptability to modern performance formats. This study is significant in that it systematically analyzes the transmission process and dance movements of Seonipmu, thereby establishing its position as a traditional dance that evolved within the Honam dance framework. However, as the transmission of Seonipmu has been primarily centered around specific regions and individuals, future research should compare and analyze different interpretations and transmission methods among various successors. Additionally, it is necessary to conduct notation (Mubo) work to systematically document Seonipmu’s dance movements and to examine the differences in choreography among various successors in greater detail.
