Abstract

This study explores the contemporary transmission of Chinese folk dance by analyzing the cultural significance of Shandong Yangge and Northeast Yangge. Shandong Yangge, grounded in Confucian values and traditional rituals, embodies elegance and restraint through its refined movements, forming a distinct regional identity. It has been reinterpreted in modern contexts through tourism content, performing arts, and educational initiatives. In contrast, Northeast Yangge represents the fusion of diverse ethnic cultures and agricultural abundance, emphasizing communal vitality and participation. In recent years, its integration with mass media and emerging technologies has further enhanced its public accessibility and appeal. Focusing on the creative and transmissive practices of Yangge—such as VR performances, social media platforms, and global digital networks—this study identifies a new cultural narrative for younger generations, bridging the divide between tradition and modernity. Yangge exemplifies the potential to preserve traditional values through innovative incorporation of contemporary sensibilities, fostering meaningful engagement with younger audiences and serving as a pivotal medium for international cultural exchange. This research contributes to the broader discourse on the modernization of traditional folk arts, offering a framework to understand the cultural and technological transformation of Yangge within a globalized context.
