Abstract

Based on the 3×2 achievement goals model (Elliot, Murayama, & Pekrun, 2011), the main purpose of this study was to test the relationships between female university students’approach-avoidance temperament, multiple achievement goal orientation, and engagement in dance classes. Subjects were 407 female university students majoring in dance. Data were conducted using descriptive statistics, confirmatory factor analysis, and structural equation modeling. The results of the mediation effects of multiple achievement goals in the relationship between approach-avoidance temperament and engagement in dance classes were as follows: First, the approach temperament of female university students majoring in dance positively influenced on engagement in dance classes through task, self, and others approach goals. Second, the avoidance temperament of female university students majoring in dance positively influenced on the avoidance goals of task, self, and others. Female university students’self avoidance goal had a negative impact on engagement in dance classes, but task and others avoidance goals were unrelated to engagement in dance classes. These results indicated that female university students should pursuit achievement goals for their task and self sake and enhancing their skills comparing with others in dance classes.
